Born and raised in the Philippines, I spent the entirety of my life there until 2011, when I arrived in New York for a much-needed break from a consuming job. Standing in the heart of Times Square, I was suddenly washed with the feeling of finally belonging. Now, over 12 years later, I haven’t looked back and continue to call this crazy, vibrant city my home.

I came from a conservative culture where girls were nurtured to be educated, uphold an untarnished reputation, and dream of a future centered on marriage and kids. While there’s nothing wrong with a conventional path, it simply wasn’t mine. The perpetual movie playing in my mind unfolded in places far beyond where I stood.

I share this story because it marked the first time I manifested my fervent longing for something new into reality, rejecting the mundane. Reading books and writing poems were no longer sufficient; I craved real-world exploration. The Scarlett List is my online diary, where I curate and share places I’ve explored, culinary experiences I’ve savored, and the banality I’ve escaped through art and creativity. I don’t claim to be an influencer; rather a gypsy soul, embracing the belief that life is short, the universe vast, and every moment worth living.
